About Continental Building Products

Continental Building Products was a North American manufacturer of gypsum wallboard and complementary finishing products. Founded in 1965, the company operated primarily in the eastern United States and Canada. The company was formerly known as Lafarge North America’s Gypsum Division before being acquired by private equity firm Lone Star Funds in 2013, at which point it was renamed Continental Building Products. The company operated three gypsum wallboard production facilities located in Palatka, Florida; Silver Grove, Kentucky; and Buchanan, New York. These plants had a combined annual production capacity of approximately 2.5 billion square feet of wallboard. Continental Building Products was known for its Rapid Deco Level 5 finishing system and its Weather Defense exterior gypsum boards. In February 2020, Saint-Gobain, through its subsidiary CertainTeed, acquired Continental Building Products for approximately $1.4 billion. The acquisition strengthened Saint-Gobain’s position in the North American construction materials market and expanded its wallboard manufacturing footprint. Prior to the acquisition, Continental Building Products was publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol CBPX. The company had approximately 800 employees across its operations.
