In 1983, Cowles Publishing Company sold its broadcasting operations to the Taft Broadcasting Company and changed its name to Cowles Media Company. The company continued to operate the Star Tribune and other publications until it was sold to McClatchy Company in 1998. Today, Cowles Publishing Company no longer exists as a separate entity, but its legacy continues through the Star Tribune and the various other publications that it was involved in during its history.
